Boston Museum of Science

http://www.mos.org/

Target Audience
Grades -   K-2   3-5   6-8   9-12

The Boston Museum of Science (MOS) has something for everyone. There are a variety of pages within the site useful to students, teachers, and the general public.

The opening pages provide a number of choices. The pages on the museum's exhibits would be an excellent introduction for anyone planning a visit. For those beyond the visiting range, there are website exhibits with text and illustrations. Also provided are links to other sites on the topic and a relevant article written by a scholar in the field. The articles will be of use to any student searching for a primary source to include in a paper.

For teachers, I believe the Learn More section will be the most useful. The topically listed videos in the Lyman library are available to regional teachers and to MOS members. It would be worth the cost of membership just to be able to use the video library if you are outside the New England area.

The Educator's Cheapbook is a gem. Numerous demonstrations and activities are presented that vary in grade level but all are well explained. The "Glowing Pickle" has been printed out and has joined my file of demonstrations.

The MOS site has information about on-site courses and a number of museum services as well as the ones described above. These would be of great interest to science students at all grade levels, the public, and teachers in the region.

This site deserves "bookmarking" on any teacher's or student's computer.

The Boston Museum of Science website is more than an information site for the museum. Besides operating hours, current exhibits, and special program information; you'll find 14 online exhibits and 57 classroom demonstrations in the Educators Cheapbook. The site continues to be added to and updated regularly and is a superb resource for science teachers at all levels.
